Day 50 ~ May 28th, 2017
This morning was the second race in the MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) race series here in Kelowna. And I was not impressed once again for the following reasons:
1. The trail selected forced the racers to bottleneck into single file for most of the race, which caused a slow down in speed and runners tripping and/or falling.
2. Runners for the 10km had to run the same route TWICE. Awful! Especially in high twenty degree heat and inclines that you’ve already run at the first half of the race. Ones legs are already quite fatigued at this point. I would have preferred a looped run that had me running 5 km up and then 5 km down.
3. Pyschy-wise it’s tough to stay pumped up and do your best when you know you have to see everything all over again. Repetition is one of the biggest pet peeves that I have so this was extremely aggravating before I even left the house to go to the race.
An annoyance that I met for the last 5km was the runner paced behind me had a Bluetooth speaker playing music, which would have been fine if we were hiking, but I don’t enjoy music when I run and found this discourteous to myself and other participants. And because I don’t listen to music when I run (unless I am at the track), I found it distracting. Use your ear buds it’s courteous to the everyone else around you.
I did like that this run was out on trails this time though. I’ve never been on any of the trails in Rose Valley so it was cool to get a small ‘taste’ of the area and I will certainly go back to do some walking around them in the future.
So, that all said I am not super excited for the third race despite it being on the regular trail I use near my place. I imagine they will make up run to 5km and then turn around and run back which is stupid and I really don’t want to do that.
I think I am going to email the coordinator tomorrow and see the reasoning behind looped routes and what could maybe, be done to change that. Running from point A to point B is ideal whether in a full circle or a straight line as it kills monotony.
I should hopefully get race standings tomorrow, or if really lucky tonight. I’ll keep checking either way!

In other news… Only three weeks left of school and it doesn’t feel like enough time… I’m hoping to get everything done on time to at least get a decent mark. Glad that my schooling direction has changed as there’s no way I could handle more Math and Physics next year. Just no way.
I have the last Team Meeting tomorrow afternoon for my son’s schooling/programing. So, hopefully I can get everything for that wrapped up today and tomorrow morning. It will be nice to not have to send weekly updates for a few months as that gets so tedious combined with daily life and I often am not on my phone or computer.
