Day 52 ~ what I’ve been up to since summer started

Day 52 ~ August 19th, 2017

Yikes! It has been basically two months since my last post! With summer vacation arriving I spend so much time outside either for just myself or with my son. There have been plenty of days that I don’t turn my computer on, or it’s only on from about supper time to bedtime, which is a good thing!

I have a few posts to do for completing things off my bucket list and I will likely do one for my last race as well (this past Sunday). But first what has gone on lately!

Day 51 ~ focus change, new goals

Day 51 ~ June 18th, 2017

It seems so strange to not be doing any Math during some of my free time on a Sunday… It’s awesome, but odd as I got into such a routine with it for nearly 6 months. So, so glad to be finished the course and I’m curious what my final grade for it is, but I won’t know that until I get my updated transcript in the mail in July most likely. I know I passed at least so that’s really all that matters and I don’t need to do anymore either *fist pump*

Lots of brainstorming/mulling over going on the last few weeks in regards to some new fitness goals. I achieved all my previous ones between last year and this year so I needed to get some new targets going to help me stay motivated.
I’ve decided to start working towards doing 100 push-ups in a row. Right now my max is 56 so I’ve got a way to go, but I enjoy push-ups and with a good, consistent plan I should be able to do it. I still plan to work at being able to do a front lever and a planche, I just won’t be super focused on them over the summer I don’t think.
Over the summer I will be mostly focused on running, try to get faster still, lots of leg & ab work, and still some weights as well. I want to be able to do 10 perfect pistol squats on each leg so hence the frequent leg work basically every other day.

Day 50 ~ two times is no good

Day 50 ~ May 28th, 2017

This morning was the second race in the MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-op) race series here in Kelowna. And I was not impressed once again for the following reasons:

1. The trail selected forced the racers to bottleneck into single file for most of the race, which caused a slow down in speed and runners tripping and/or falling.
2. Runners for the 10km had to run the same route TWICE. Awful! Especially in high twenty degree heat and inclines that you’ve already run at the first half of the race. Ones legs are already quite fatigued at this point. I would have preferred a looped run that had me running 5 km up and then 5 km down.
3. Pyschy-wise it’s tough to stay pumped up and do your best when you know you have to see everything all over again. Repetition is one of the biggest pet peeves that I have so this was extremely aggravating before I even left the house to go to the race.

An annoyance that I met for the last 5km was the runner paced behind me had a Bluetooth speaker playing music, which would have been fine if we were hiking, but I don’t enjoy music when I run and found this discourteous to myself and other participants. And because I don’t listen to music when I run (unless I am at the track), I found it distracting. Use your ear buds it’s courteous to the everyone else around you.

I did like that this run was out on trails this time though. I’ve never been on any of the trails in Rose Valley so it was cool to get a small ‘taste’ of the area and I will certainly go back to do some walking around them in the future.

So, that all said I am not super excited for the third race despite it being on the regular trail I use near my place. I imagine they will make up run to 5km and then turn around and run back which is stupid and I really don’t want to do that.

I think I am going to email the coordinator tomorrow and see the reasoning behind looped routes and what could maybe, be done to change that. Running from point A to point B is ideal whether in a full circle or a straight line as it kills monotony.

I should hopefully get race standings tomorrow, or if really lucky tonight. I’ll keep checking either way!

In other news… Only three weeks left of school and it doesn’t feel like enough time… I’m hoping to get everything done on time to at least get a decent mark. Glad that my schooling direction has changed as there’s no way I could handle more Math and Physics next year. Just no way.

I have the last Team Meeting tomorrow afternoon for my son’s schooling/programing. So, hopefully I can get everything for that wrapped up today and tomorrow morning. It will be nice to not have to send weekly updates for a few months as that gets so tedious combined with daily life and I often am not on my phone or computer.

Things I am grateful for/about today:

~ finishing the race even though I really didn’t want to
~ my plot in the community garden is doing nicely. All transplants and seedlings are doing awesome!
~ a nice cool shower after the race in the hear this morning
~ lovely conversation with a friend
~ it stays slightly chilled inside the house despite no A/C running and it so hot out

Day 48 ~ soaking up all the sunshine

Day 48 ~ May 21st, 2017

Yesterday evening because the weather was so lovely out I sat out on the bench swing with my son. The sun was setting, we were rocking, he cuddled up to me, and I sang song after song for almost thirty minutes.
In these moments there is always so much clarity for my son. What I mean when I say this is that he is the epitome of regulated (calm), he speaks in full, clear, properly structured sentences (using the right pronouns, phrased questions/statements), and holds eye contact (his gaze doesn’t stutter all over the place) so I can see it in his eyes. It’s like for a handful of minutes the mutated gene(s) self-correct for that small amount of time and I get to see to the core of my little boy. It is a strange, treasured phenomenon that always makes my day 😀

Not much to mention today other than it was beautiful out! So I spent a large chunk of my day outside. Did some reading in the morning and then a short walk. Ended up going for another walk later in the afternoon and then sat out in the sun while I worked on my Math before dinner. It was so lovely and I am so sunburned, but it is worth it as it will turn into a tan!

Things that I am grateful for/about today:

~ that I’ve made getting my workout done first thing in the AM a habit
~ it’s the May long weekend and it isn’t raining!! This is so rare!
~ being outside for most of the day
~ got my herbs planted this afternoon
~ I noticed an increase flexibility in my hamstrings

And an extra on because I am so happy about this: BTS won the Top Social Award at the BBMAs this evening!!! Yays!!

Cheers ~ &x#270c;

Day 47 ~ Am I in a type warp?

Day 47 ~ May 20th, 2017

I feel like every day for the past two weeks has been so incredibly busy and yet I can’t recall what I’ve had going on for the most part!

School is coming to a close for myself and my son in a months time. This means I am trying to get the Pre-Calc course I am working on finished up and keep my son moderately on track with all of his stuff as well. I have all his lessons planned out from now until the last day of school so that is a huge organizational gain!

Coming to the tail end of “spring cleaning” this week. I finished downsizing the file cabinet from four drawers to two drawers. I haven’t gone through all of those in probably two or three years so I got rid of a ton of stuff and have a decent ‘to shred’ pile going on too.

Day 46 ~ still winter in the nooks

Day 46 ~ April 23rd, 2017

Got out for a bike ride on the Myra Trestles this morning with Hulkhands and a friend. It was a perfect day for it! No wind or rain! There was still a fair bit of snow in the middle bit so we opted to turn around at that point because tromping in the snow with bikes is definitely not ideal, especially without fat tires. Give it another month or so and it will all be melted and we can head up again for a jaunt.

Thankfully I was thinking far enough ahead and took something to help deal with my allergies for the day. The two things I am most allergic to in this area are pollinating like crazy right now, so the eyes and nose are going haywire!

Day 45 ~ rainy day cuddles, procrastination killer

Day 45 ~ April 20th, 2017

My son was awake before 5:30 this morning and tromping out of bed shortly after then. Thankfully he was totally game to come cuddle with me in my bed. He even fell back to sleep there too! When my alarm went off thirty minutes later and I was getting up, he didn’t want to get up. I even asked him if he wanted “more sleep” and he very quietly, sleepy mumbled “more” and promptly started snoring again *chuckles* So, I tucked him back in and even now he is still snoozing away and it’s been just over an hour since I got up. He hasn’t done something like this with me in years and it felt nice 🙂
