Day 15 ~ unexpected liking, goals reached

Day 15 ~ December 28th, 2016

Christmas was relaxing I played Assassin’s Creed for most of the day and boy do I enjoy that game! I hadn’t ever played it until this last week because it didn’t seem like a game that I would enjoy, but I am loving it 😀

I managed to catch what seems to be a head cold from the kiddo… -_-
Not impressed with how many colds I’ve had so far this winter. I was going to go for a run on the 26th, but I felt so crappy I just couldn’t make that happen. Not feeling all that much better today either, so I am just planning to pick up the running first thing in the new year. I’ve gone basically two months with no running and it sucks big time!

I think I’ve picked the program and challenges that I will do for January. I have two challenges decided on already and I am just waiting to see what the new monthly challenge will be at Darebee and then I may add that one on as well. The program I plan to do is entirely weight-based and I am looking forward to it. I am also planning on getting my running more regular again and I want to start boxing at least once a week.

As far as fitness goals for this year, I’ve reached most of what I set out, or wanted, to do and that feels amazing! I don’t think I will hit 20 pull-ups in a row by the end of the month though… That is a bit of a bummer, but I am close to getting it and I may re-do the Pull-Up Lvl 2 Challenge in the new year to help me along. Fingers crossed it helps!

Day 14 ~ breathe of relief *click click*

Day 14 ~ December 24th, 2016

I drove my car for the first time and I didn’t have a nervous breakdown!!
Driving is such an anxiety filled activity for me ever since I was a teenager and one of the main reasons why, up until this point, that I haven’t gotten my full license. I was relieved today to actually feel more relaxed than expected for the drive across town and then back home. I was still nervous as hell, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I anticipated it being either. I’m looking forward to getting out more often to practice and I know that the more I do that, the more confident I will get being out on the road as well. *happy dance*

Something that I did want to make a note of is how well my son has gotten at turning off lights when he leaves a room. It’s not a hundred percent of the time, but it’s greatly improved.
This time last year I had to constantly remind him or I’d do it myself because he was already downstairs or engaged in something else already. So it’s cool to see him remembering on his own more often.
He’ll go darting out of a room, only to quickly stop, zip around, and dash back to click the light off. It makes me smile just thinking about it!

And that all said, I am going to go back to playing some video games and have a drink. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas Eve/Day as well 😀

Day 13 ~ it’s a process & burpees breaking 1K

Day 13 ~ December 22nd, 2016

At the beginning of this week changing some obsessive behaviour from my son commenced. These kinds of behaviours are typical for anyone with Special Needs/ASD (of varying degrees and natures) and working through them so they aren’t disruptive of your day in the long run is a process. For my son it includes being firm, using simple language, using visuals if available, and sometimes having a re-direct ready on a dime.

So to explain the situation here…
My son likes collecting and taking his movies from his dad’s place and my place in his backpack everywhere he goes. He doesn’t necessarily want to watch them at the different places he just wants to “have” them with him. This wasn’t really a problem at the beginning because he’d keep them in his backpack, but it slowly became one reusable bag and then another and another and yeah, you get the idea.
It was causing problems when going out in public because we can’t bring that much stuff with us everywhere and it impedes his involvement in physical activities in many cases.
Sunday evening and Monday morning were by far the worst days out of this week. Lots of screaming, crashing, and crying because we could no longer just have all the movies we desired within physical reach for when he wanted them.

Today is Thursday and besides a few couple minute windows of where he yelled a bit about how he didn’t like it, the new routine seems to be understood now. It only took a few days and I’m glad that even though the behaviour isn’t 100% curbed, it is dampened and he is willing to carry on with his day despite not getting what he wants. A big win!

I got some more shortbread cookies baked this afternoon. These batches without the nutmeg are loads better in my opinion! Try to bake some of my favourite chocolate/butterscotch chop cookies tomorrow as they are quick to do.

The crazy amount of burpees continues on with the rep amounts increasing each day. I am over 1,000reps now, but I won’t do a full count until tomorrow morning most likely. I enjoyed burpees before this event, and aside from the soreness of doing so many of them the last few days the motion of them is almost effortless. I plan to make burpees a part of my warm-up before my daily workout everyday in the new year 🙂

And on that note I am going to go stretch and then maybe read for a bit!

Military Fit Plus ~ D17-25 + Cardio Blast Challenge ~ D18-26

Military Fit Plus Program

Day 17: Full Circuit ~ all levels 3 sets/no rest between sets — *30 seconds side to side hops after each exercise*

Day 18: Power Circuit ~ Level 3/7 sets — used 20# dumbbells for everything except the punches I used 15# dumbbells for those and I did the push-up planks to failure for the first two reps.

Day 19: Power Circuit ~
Level 3/7 sets *1min high knees at the start of each set* — I did the full planks and L-sit to failure each set

Day 20: Trials ~ I hit the target for high knees: 10 minutes non-stop. The target for push-ups I surpassed for a total of 110reps in two minutes. The rep to time looked like this: 48secs = 50reps, 1:11 = 70reps, 1:35 = 90reps, & 2:00 = 110reps. And I hit 79reps for sit-ups in two minutes. I was soooo close to hitting the target amount which was 80-100reps.

Day 21: Power Circuit ~ Level 3/7 sets — I used 25# dumbbells on the bicep curls and press, 15# dumbbells on the lat. raises, and 50# dumbbell for the triceps extensions

Day 22: 8-Count ~ Level 3/50reps — this was a little awkward at the beginning, but once I got my groove it went by very quickly.

Day 23: Speed & Stealth ~ Level 3/7 sets — quick and easy, a nice break with all the burpees I had to do today.

Day 24: Century Round ~ all levels 100reps each — I did everything in either one or two sets.

Day 25: A Cup of Tea ~ Level 3/10 sets — a fun workout with the sandbag (35lb), but I slowly started running out of steam at the sixth set and was moving very slowly come the tenth set.

Day 12 ~ Xmas ready & lobbing snowballs

Day 12 ~ December 21th, 2016

Well, aside from a little more baking, that I will try to get done tomorrow and the next day, I think I am all organized for the holidays!

I walked down to ICBC yesterday morning and got my “L” renewed and because it’s a renewal I can go take my “N” road test whenever I feel ready for it. I’m thinking around March sometime, but I shall see how it goes. I’m actually excited to be driving, which is not something I thought I would ever say. I’ve been perfectly content to walk, run, or cycle wherever I need to get, but with my son getting bigger driving is definitely an easier form of travel. Plus, it means we will be able to do more in the future as we won’t be limited to places or activities right in our neighbourhood.

The Snowfight! at Darebee is getting crazy! Since it started I’ve “dodged” 771 snowballs, which means I have done that many burpees. But, it also means that I’ve sent out 1,542 snowballs for other members in The Hive to dodge so that’s pretty cool 😀 I am sore all over right now! I can’t seem to decide which part hurts the worst my obliques, my upperback, or my thighs. It’s kind of all blending together now. Hopefully the soreness will ease off some by tomorrow!

Day 10 ~ gotta make a new habit

Day 10 ~ December 16th, 2016

This is becoming a bad habit, I need to get consistent with either typing a little every morning or evening. The tough part is typically getting it done in one shot because I am interrupted so much. It’s hard to keep a train of thought going when it’s derailed a handful of times in the process.

Aside from the middle of the night to about an hour after getting up, I feel like I am no longer sick. I still end up with a sore throat, or a slight cough, or plugged nose come bedtime though. Not sure what is up with that, but hopefully the tail end of that is upon me as well.

As part of my workout today, I needed to time how many push-ups I could do within two minutes with the target being between 80-100reps. I did a 110reps, not all in a row I took small pauses, but still a new feat for me. I am pleased to be able to do 50reps (in a row) in 48 seconds. I’d mentioned at some point this summer that I wanted to get that under a minute and I am elated to have achieved that personal goal.

By the start of the new year, all the At-Home Funding for my son should hopefully be set up. That whole process has gone on this week, so that means lots of emails/texts with his Speech and Occupational Therapists. Plus, some added in communication with the rest of his team so everyone knows what’s going on. It honestly doesn’t seem like much, or remotely tiring, when I look at those few sentences, but the back and forth from early this morning until dinner is exhausting for me.

Anyway that’s it for me today.

Day 9 ~ cookies galore coming up

Day 9 ~ December 13th, 2016

It’s been so cold the last few days that I’ve avoided sitting at my computer longer than absolutely necessary. So, this hasn’t been getting done, but not much is going on lately either…

I am finally starting to feel better. It seems like the last 4-5 weeks have been some form of “under the weather” and I am tired of it. Once I am 100% again I hope to stay that way for the rest of the winter months. I really want to get running again, I haven’t been able to for weeks and I am missing it so much!!

I’m going to do a bunch of baking tomorrow. I think some more shortbread cookies and, also, some kind of chip cookies too. If time permits, and I am not sick of washing my mixing bowls by this point, I will make some peanut butter cookies as well. I should do some file sorting tomorrow too, but I suppose I shall see how that goes.
