I never considered myself a hip hop/rap fan until this past summer. Before then if you had asked me what kind of music I liked I would have assuredly told you ‘anything but rap or music with harmonica sounds‘.

Now, that answer is no longer correct. I’ve found that it has quickly become my favourite genre of music to do any running or working out to or just dancing around the house like an idiot 😛 That is something I do often!

This Korean group, Bangtan Boys, is definitely been a big part of my change in opinion in regards to this type of music. It started with boxing training and this song below:

Spine Breaker (등골브레이커)

I was part of the way through a Plyometrics set when it came on, on my iPod and it was on repeat for the rest of my workout I loved it so much.

Music Review ~ “PVRIS”

Artist: PVRIS
Albums: White Noise (2014)
Genre: Post-Hardcore, Alternative/Electronic Rock
Years Active: 2012 – Present
Rating Out of Five: 3

Record Label: Rise/Velocity Records

For Fans of…. Tonight Alive, Paramore, Palisades

I think I came across PVRIS while I was surfing YouTube one day and it popped up in my sidebar recommendations. They caught my attention right away as they sound a lot like Paramore. So, right off the bat, if you don’t like that band then you won’t like this one.

Because they have a sound that is so close to that of the band Paramore, there isn’t much that sets them apart yet. The overall sound and the lead vocalist have very similar vocals and range, so I am interested to see how their sound progresses or changes as they release new music. The thing I am enjoying the most about PVRIS is some of their lyrics and how some of their songs are put together, it’s a little different from the norm and that is what appeals to me most when listening to music. I feel like there is definitely a ton of potential for them!!

This is a band I came across via as that is where I usually go when I am looking for new music. I am a fan of the if you liked this… try this… part of the website, it cuts down on mindless searching and you can preview the songs.

From the first time I heard them, I LOVED them! I have them on almost every device that I own that can play music, they are on all of my playlists because I like this band that much!! It is a rarity for me to enjoy a band/artist this much and/or all of their songs.

Melodic Metalcore, or Melodicore, is one of my favourite genres of music. I love a beautiful blending of screaming and singing and this band does a perfect job of balancing out the two, in my opinion.

For fans of… Panic! At the Disco, The Classic Crime, A Day to Remember, Yellowcard

I’ve had this kind of half done for a while now so figured it was about time that I finished it and posted it!!

I guess I will start by saying that these guys are all great musicians!! They are signed to a label so clearly they are super talented 🙂 For anyone who does read this personal review please try to remember that this is simply my opinion and is only a reflection of my rather high standards for music. Thanks!

I feel that Set It Off is a band that has a great overall first impression, but the more I listened to them I found myself comparing them to other bands almost immediately and picking out things that I really didn’t enjoy. When I start comparing a band to other artists/bands right away it disappoints me a little, especially if they aren’t a new artist. I feel like they should have found that one thing that makes them sounds different and stick out from anyone else by this point. Now, what I do like is the ska aspect of several of the songs and the occasional fiddle thrown in there! I do love, love fiddles 😀
These two aspects of their music is what caught and kept my attention, but unfortunately, they aren’t things that haven’t been done before and, in this case, certainly done better by others.
